About Marianne

Marianne Tyler Brown professional cellist, combines her expertise as performer, alongside her teaching practice, academic research in psychology, social science and work in counselling.

Marianne studied the cello (performers course) and second study piano at The Royal Academy of Music London(Derek Simpson and David Smith) Royal Northern College of Music (Eduardo Vassallo) and Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary(Csaba Onczay) and was awarded a Masters in Cultural Management from City University, Masters in Science in Psychosocial Studies from Birkbeck /University College London, Certificate in Counselling and PGCHE with QTLS. She has successfully completed final Masters in Science dissertation in Psychosocial studies with distinction, writing about and researching music in wellbeing and community settings and the vital role music can play in healing and personal development, especially for women and children living in refuge. Marianne continues her academic work and research in this field at City University of London to conduct her PhD research and to further develop her cello performance and music teaching projects. Her musical journey projects in women’s refuges with her organisation Symphonic Tots and Kids in women’s refuges throughout London has now reached it’s tenth year of creation following a successful Arts Council award . Marianne continues to deliver her projects throughout London providing musical tuition and workshops for families.

Having performed with leading orchestras and ensembles including The Halle, Welsh National Opera and Bratislava Chamber orchestra her work has also led to recordings for BBC Radio, Television and ITV. Solo and chamber performances include venues throughout the UK and Europe including St James Piccadilly, Victoria & Albert Museum, Royal Academy of Arts, Burgh House, Lauderdale House, Stanjel, Castle Slovenia and Palace of The Arts in Budapest. Marianne is a member of the Jimeno Tyler Brown Piano Trio and has recently been appointed musician in residence at The Royal Marsden Cancer hospital following her cello performances there for patients and visiting families over the past ten years. She is also developing her cello performance projects in collaborations with the poet Audrey Ardern -Jones.

Marianne’s next Lecture Recital will explore beautiful music for Solo Cello & Cello and Piano including works by J.S Bach, Kodaly, Messiaen, Amy Beach, Linda Catlin Smith, Arvo Part, Maria Von Paradis and Imogen Holst. Presented by Cellist Marianne Tyler Brown with guest pianist Elizabeth Dockrell Tyler.

During the recital Marianne will talk about her PhD research and the stories surrounding the music performed. This event is free of charge. There will be an opportunity to contribute to Marianne’s research through a survey asking what music means to you, the audience, available following the performance (paper or digital). New Publication-Blog Launched For Museo de las Mujeres

Marianne is delighted to announce a new initiative with Museo de las Mujeres, A digital museum based in Costa Rica celebrating works by women. This publication is now live in the museum and this is a show case for Marianne’s writing, exploring her work in community music and her PhD research in music and transformation.
